1. Discuss: “All I want for Christmas is ______________________________”

2. When you were baptized, how much water did it take? Share stories.

3. How would you like to have John the Baptist as your pastor?

a. How would his dress code be accepted in First UMC and in the town?

4. Why would anyone go out of their way to hear this radical preacher (v.7)?
a. Who did they think John was (2 Kings 1:8)

5. How would you paraphrase John’s message for people today?
a. What is “the Kingdom of Heaven”?

6. What angered John so much about the Pharisees and Sadducees?

7. How do John’s and Jesus’s ministries compare?

8. When it comes to baptism, what does our church practice?
a. What does baptism signify?

9. Why did Jesus want to be baptized? What do you think it meant to him to hear his father say, “This is my son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased?”

CHOOSE A QUESTION:
(1) Who has been a “John the Baptist” in your life? And how did he or she prepare you to meet Jesus?

(2) Who are today’s Pharisees and Sadducees?

(3) How is repentance linked to your experience of salvation: In the past?  Now? Where does rependance still need to happen in your life?

(4) How does God affirmed you as His child in Christ?
